Help!! Virus On Desktop

I am having a proble, and not sure what to do about it. I have ads on my desktop background. When I go into my properties to change the desktop, it won't let me do anything. The ads on the desktop are across the top, sides, bottom, and a large one in the center. The ads on the sides and top/bottom, roll, or change. The one in the center has only changed one time. Right now, it is somekind of "Redneck Rollercoaster" ad. Before now, it was a kid holding three or four balloons. The ads on the sides and top/bottom change frequently. The roll from "wachovia", "you have 1 new message", "you are the 10,000th person: you win", etc, and things like that. Can someone, please tell me how to get rid of this? Thanks

Did you get your desktop virus off your computer? We had this very thing happen this weekend and wondered if you could tell me what got rid of it??
