Morning all,

I have a Windows 2000 server, Vertias Backup Exec 8.6 and a Dell Power Vault 110 DLT tape drive.

I keep getting the same error:

Storage device "DELL 1" reported an error on a request to write data to media.

Error reported:
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

^ ^ ^ ^ ^

I have checked the drive and it's fine. SCSI ID's, drivers, tapes etc are good too. I am using the latest Vertias drivers and have rebooted the services and server.

Any ideas why this error keeps appearing?

Thanks,

Rob

Rob,

Most of the time you can correct the Device I/O errors by changing the SCSI chain order for the Library and the tape drive(s). Try setting the Libray SCSI ID to 0 and Drive 1 to SCSI ID = 1,, Drive 2 to SCSI = 2, and so on. The funny thing about Tape hardware is, they like to have their SCSI ID chain order at the bottom and very close together. Give this a try.

Maverick,

Do you mean the SCSI card ID to 0? I think my RAID array is using some of the lower ID's and the TAPE device is using ID 6.

Problem seems to be resolved by putting the SCSI card ID to 0 and the device (tape drive) to ID 1. I have no other devices on the SCSI card.

Thanks for your help.
