Hello all. I am trying to use the Count(fld, condfld) function to sum up the number of records returned for each group on my report. Here's an example.

SALES REPORT

Joe's Sales Team

Jenny Jones 10/12/2001 10 Units Sold Client A
Bob Evans 10/13/2001 7 Units Sold Client B
Alex Thomson 10/13/2001 4 Units Sold Client C
Jenny Jones 10/14/2001 17 Units Sold Client A
Joe's Sales Team Total:
Sales People: 3 Number of Orders: 4

Sally's Sales Team
Alex Anderson 10/14/2001 4700 Units Sold Client X
Sally's Sales Team Total:
Sales People: 1 Number of Orders: 1

Right now, whenever I try to insert the count(fld, condfld) function for the Number of Orders it gives me an error saying "The Summary / running total field could not be created." Is there some trick to this?? It seems like it should be the easiest function out there but it keeps giving me trouble. Help please!!!!

Thanks in advance,
CrystalVisualBOralce S-)

You give it two fields, the first is the field or column you are counting, the second has to be a group field. If you are using a formula for one of these fields you have to make sure that the formula doesn't have a summary function in it already.

Ahhh I got it. I was trying to set the formula to group by the sales persons id but my report was grouped using the salesperson's name. Thanks for the help!
