I iserted Visual C++ 6.0 CD to install in windows vista. (I have dsl connection and was possibly on line.) Was prompted to enter a different key number. Program doesn't work and I can not even uninstall it. Ideas please!!

2ndly. I added Visual C++ Professional edition to the system. That lets me compile my programs but does not generate the .exe file. Any advice?

Compiling a program isn't the same as generating an exe file. You need to link the objects together to create the exe file. Alternatively, if you are compiling from the command line, drop the -c.

Don't know anything about Vista. You probably have a half installed visual studio. Does MS provide a cleanup program for Vista? They provide one for XP which I have used when Office installations do not complete. It just puts the registry back into a stable state.

Alternatively there is a public domain program called regcleaner which does something similar but you have to manually select what you don't want.
