Hey guys,
How does RIS work exactly? I have a tablet laptop and want to make an image of that. When I upload the up image it just puts all the files up on the network. A product like ghost just makes it 1 image file, is there anyways that RIS can do this?
Also during initial setup it asked for a vanilla image so I tossed in windows xp cd. When I try to drop to my tablet image back down it doesn't know about the network drivers.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Is there anyway I can use RIS to just create an image file to be able to bring back down, without RIS referring to the initial vanillia windows xp?

Thanks!

There is a lot of info on MS Site to answer all your questions.

RIS is a Script-based or File-based Deployment method, so it doesn't work in the same fashion as Ghost. If you are looking for and Image-based Deployment method, such as Ghost, Microsoft introduced ADS (Automated Deployment Services). But, Unilike RIS, ADS was developed for Server Deployment so I am not sure if it currently works will XP. Again, Take a look at MS website for more detailed info.

Unless you want to battle with RIS for weeks and still not get what you want, keep the process simple and organized, use Symantec Ghost Solution Suite for the business.

RIS is a network based deployment system. It is not a direct replacement for Ghost.

RIS should be used to deploy versions of Windows to servers and client as appropiate.
Ghost can be used almost as a recovery tool where as RIS is not designed for that.

The same way that I wouldn't use Ghost to deploy Windows to 50 workstations, I wouldn't use RIS to 'backup' my entire system.
