Hi,

I am unable to login to my server (host). Apparently our tmp directory is at 100%. We use ssh protocal. If I try to use ssh from another host I get an error

ssh <host1>

ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host

Our clients are starting to make help desk calls this is an emegency...I am at a loss. Help..

Can't you still get in at the console?

Someone who is already login with root authority can clear your /tmp.

can connect as root at the console but are unable to run simple commands.

Doesn't sound like a full /tmp but sounds more like out of memory. Are you getting any unable to fork or similar errors?

I get this if I try to connect using ssh from another host:

ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host

You are right it is a memory problem

what you can do, is pull out the network connection and wait a while, so no new connections can try to get memory.Try with the slibclean command to clear memory from unused libraries. Are you able to create a new pagingspace? If you can , create a small pagingspace, then the system can grab its memory from that location, and then you will be able to check what is causing the memory consumption and take further actions

rgds,

R.

Reboot and then tune (vmo or vmtune) so it won't happen again. Sounds like paging space to me as well.
