Hi all...

I have the right DTE settings (38400, 8N1, None) and the right emulation, but when I power on the control unit and press ESC every second, instead of seeing the Loader message after which I can enter AT commands, I see the following:

Soak/Diagnostic Test
MAC=00:E0:07:01:81:C9
htl 00010000 hth 20400000
Status num=6000 pass=1
Failed code=1 testnum=6000 (WAN1: V28 pattern IP=0000, OP=007f (not 0000))

Before the above, as I am pressing the ESC key it says:

Expanding MPPC image...

Any ideas?? All appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

Why are you trying to readse the firemware from the DTE port?

This should be used only as a last ditch action when all else has failed.

If the unit poweres upo correctly you can use the Manager to erase the config & upgrade the system as req.

(if you dont know the IP address of the unit try setting your PC to 192.168.42.2 & open the cfg using the default broadcast address, this should reveal the unit & its IP Address)

As for the error msg, I am not sure what this is but Avaya did admit to sending som systems out with Diagnostic configs

Hey...thanks so much for your response.

Reason I'm doing this is because I sent a config (thru Manager) to the IP406 control unit. This config was from another unit we manage, and we know the password to that unit. I took that config as a template which I then tweaked for the purposes of the NEW unit. I then sent the tweaked config to the NEW unit, but I know am "locked out" and cannot receive the config from the unit; no password works. It is as if the encryption algorithm on the computer that did the original old unit config and the one on my PC were different (so despite the encrypted password in the CSV file looking exactly the same in both files, it actually was fifferent in practice). Is there a way to recover the password of a control unit or reset it in case something like this happens? Sorry to ramble - thanks in advance for your response!!

Fred

First, did you try receiving the config from the new 406 using whatever password WAS on that unit before sending the new config, just in case you were unsucessful in sending the new config?

Second, I would double check that the password in the config you sent is indeed what you think it was. Use snadboys revelation for this - do a websearch if you don't have it.

Does manager say password fail when you try to download or does it just remain quiet & not get the cfg?

It the latter then the networl settings of your PC do not match the IPO, A broadcast willget a responce from the IPO which is why you get the password request but you will be unable to recieve the data because you are on a different subnet.

I have also had problems when the .cfg file im my working directory has been wright protected, Manager trys to download but is unable to overwrite the file & fails.

Thanks Morrack and IPGuru...

I'm sure I'm on the same subnet. Until I sent the config with the encrypted password, I was able to freely connect to the unit and recv configs. BTW Morrack the password was blank originally, and that unfortunately does not work. I do get an error box saying config not received, make sure the password is correct. I am still able to ping the unit, and when I click the Open Folder icon in Manager, it does the searching process and discovers the unit no problem, but password will not work.

I can't figure out Snadboys. Keep in mind when the config is exported as text, the system password is encrypted (not asterisks), and I try to do the click and drag thing in Snadboys and position it over the cell in Excel (with the CSV file up) and...nothing.

Any ideas???

Thanks in advance!!

Fred

Yes, don't use revelation on the .CSV file, use it on the config which you are going to open offline in Manager. It will pick it up no problem.

BTW I doubt the old password was blank - try "password" (no quotes).

Peter

Morrack,

Thanks for that...Snadboys worked great - but just confirmed what I already suspected/knew...the password is what I thought it was - the same one as the one in the cfg I sent to the unit, but it still refuses to work...:(

Any other suggestions??

Fred

is the password failing or just refusing to download the CFG?

If it says the CFG has not been recived please check password then it is an password error
if it remains balnk then the manager is unable to wright the cfg to disk, this could be because the CFG file is read only or your working directory is set to a wright protedted floppy.
Not Files copied from CD rom to HD are set as read only!
if it says unable to creat file then it is trying to write the .bak file that is having causing the problem.

failimg that ist is back to the AT-x2, at-x3, at-x4 sequence.
make sure thet you are pressing esc as soon as power is applied to the IPO, if it gets as far as expanding mppc then you have left it too long.

Baud rate 38400 No parity 8 data 1 sop, set handshaking/flow controll to NONE

Password is definitely failing..:( It says check to see if the password is correct...I have verified the password through Revelation as well....so I'm not sure what's up...:((

OK I'm confused.

I decided to play around a little bit with the config files and the working directory for cfg files. Even if I change the working directory to an arbitrary location that has NO cfg files in it, I still get the password error. I'm beginning to think that Manager is not reading the fact (when the working directory is correct) that the cfg file in question is EVEN THERE....does this make sense...

Changing the WD or renaming the cfg file in the working directory...doesn't matter, I get the exact same password error message.

Well there must have been some corruption somewhere. I decided to re-attempt the AT-X2 and 3 routine and this time it worked - I think I was faster with the ESC key! (Thanks IPGuru!)..I was able to re-establish communication with the unit and not have to re-upgrade it. WOOHOO

One caveat I would share from experience. I would seem that importing a CFG file from text (CSV file) is problematic as far as passwords are concerned. If you do import a CFG file from a CSV file, I would manually change all passwords (Even if you think you are changing them to themselves!) BEFORE sending the imported CFG to your unit. That is the procedure I just completed and Voila! no problems!

Thanks for all your help!

Ahhhhh.... I didn't realise that you had passed this config around as a .csv and not as a .cfg file. You are exactly correct. If you import a config in from a .csv file you MUST retype the password (and confirm) before sending it to the IPO or you will be locked out. I have seen this one before.
