My organization has a document that was created in Word 2003 (I think). We are moving toward everyone being upgraded to Office 2010, and are cleaning up documents/templates that will be needed afterward.

One such document has been brought to my attention where there appears to be about 20 or so "macros" that are saved into the template. Half of which do not work properly and the rest that are still useful. In 2010, these show up in the "Add In" ribbon. In 2003, they are in the formatting toolbar.

When attempting to remove these objects, in 2010, they do not show up in the add in customization area where you can add, disable, enable or remove them. In 2003, in the customization area of add ins or macros, they do not show up at all. However in the toolbar they are all there. Even in the add/remove buttons of the formatting toolbar, however there, they are all grayed out!

OK, so, does anyone know WHAT these buggers are, and how to get them out of the document?? Even if there is a way to just export the working objects to a new template would be fantastic. None of the help files out there seem to be able to give any assistance on this issue.

did you look in the VBE? maybe your macros are code modules :)

It sounds like the format toolbar has been modified by the template. Are these .DOT files?

It is a good idea to go into the VBE and see what is there. Perhaps you can delete some procedures.

Perhaps more importantly, why are you even still using them if you do not really need them, or even know what they are?

And how do you know half of them don't work if you don't know what they're supposed to do and under what circumstances?

We do not know enough. If these are NOT add-ins (and they would show up in the add-in dialog), then they have to be either opened as documents, or if they are .DOT (template) files then documents made from them are opened. Can you give us some more information?
