Hello,

I have managed to successfully create a crystal report. I have compiled and distributed the file and installed the report on the clients p.c. We have given them permissions to the database the report is pointing to. However, when the user logs in she cannot run the report. It says Print Engine Error: Error detected by database dll. However, I log in under Windows NT on her p.c and the report works for me. Any idea why the reports are not working for her but for me. I am using crystal 8.5 and compiled them however, I get these issues with crystal 8 and 7 when I have installed them in the past. No solution has been found except that I would run the reports for them. Any ideas. Thanks again.

Perhaps it has something to do with the install, the fiels required for connectivity aren't available to her, at any rate, it sure sounds like permissions for either the files required to run the report, or the database (which apparently you've verified that she can connect to from her machine).

If not, do so - ht is an easy test and will liminate one thing.

If using ODBC, make sure you setup the connections as "Machine DSN" rather than "User DSN".

Hi Both synapsevampire and idomillet. Thanks for your reply. With regards to synapsevampire I have tried many tests and I probably agree with you that it is some sort of permissions issue. Not sure what though. Any thoughts? With regards to idomillet. Thanks for your reply also. I have ensured that the odbc connection is a system dsn(machine dsn). Still doesn't work. Any other suggestions? Thanks for all your help.

Dear SavatoreF,

I have seen this issue in the past and it turned out the the permissions on the actual files needed to be set to Everyone Full Control and Authenticated Users full control.

Did you check the file permissions (rpt, exe, crf) etc are set to full control?

Hope this helps,

Open a SQL query window and log in as the user to verify that the user can hit the required objects (tables/Views, etc.).

If so, then it sounds like permissions on the files required to execute.

If not, upgrade the user. I'm guessing that they don't have the required privileges. But the error you're receiving is too generic to know.
