Hi All, I'm really stuck here - any help would be appreciated ! :)

I've just installed Presentation svr 4 on a windows 2003 server called CTRX3. I also have a 2003 server running the citrix licensing and TS licensing server seperately for redundancy. I have defined a farm (LO_CITRIX) + published an application (in this case internet explorer).

I have activated the terminal server licensing server and added 100 Per User Cal Tokens, and i have also added 10 users onto the citrix licensing. I have more citrix licenses but i wanted to get it running before adding the rest.

When i try to add the farm i get the "There is no Citrix Server configured on the specified address" message.

Anyone know what i've missed here because i am stumped !?

Thanks

Steve

The default search on clients is to use http/tcp which means it will look by default on the LAN for something talking XML on port 80. If you have changed this or are on a separate lan, it will not find it. So you need to edit the addresses in server location button in the client.

Cheers for replying Scott :)

Well i have manually added the farm onto a couple of PC's citrix program neighbourhood, and specified the ip address explicitly, so i guess that has covered your suggestion ? What i have noticed is my account that is a member of domain admins/administrators (the administrator account for the CITRIX_LO domain and another custom account) seems to get access (ie. farm installs/icons appear and i can use IE perfectly) whereas my other accounts with peon status ie normal domain users fail to add the farm and get the above message..

hmmmmmm >:)

Steve

Aha you might need to add them into the terminal Services Remote access group on the Citrix box.

If you mean in the TS Config in the user properties - yes thats already been done....

I've noticed the TS+Citrix licesning server isnt issuing licenses (even though CTRX3 can ping and resolve the server) could this be the reason ?

Not too sure why it isnt issuing ! lol

Thanks

Steve

I don't think it would come up with that error.

No there is a group in W2K3 called Remote Desktop Users "I think" your users need to be a member of them too.

Also make sure your farm is accepting connections from anywhere too. Right click your farm and look at connection access control.

Yes any connections are being accepted with the farm settings :)

My PDC/BDC that is servicing the logons for the citrix server are NT4 Based, hence are missing the group you describe. I tried manually adding a user account into the Remote Desktop Users group on the citrix server itself but it makes no difference whatsoever as the NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated users group is already present in there... i've taken it back out now.

I have noticed that some other machines can get in ok, and a couple get this error. Could it possibly be a client config problem !?

Thanks again

Steve

It is probably the case then. Check the ones that can't get in and check you can see the server by pinging it. Also try telnet to the server from the client on port 1494.

Unfortunately i've done that. Telnet fails from all clients due to the firewall config, But pinging works, DNS name resolution does not work, again becuase of the setup.

Got a funny feeling this will be a citrix job... lol

If telnet fails then it won't work full stop. You have to see it port 1494. Unless you are coming in over public internet, and using SSL.

Tried it again telnet 193.244.44.14 1494 and its working this time !?

I cant understand that as thats what i typed in early today !!?

Try setting up a custom ICA connection directly at the server IP. Does it get a logon screen ?

when i crate a manual ica connection to 193.244.44.14, and dont define an application i do indeed get the desktop up !!

Does that mean the farm has problems ?

Right then, progress indeed! It sounds like the XML service. Is it running on the same port on all servers.

You will find this in the management console in the servers metaframe settings bit. Unless you have IIS on your box/s.

If there is no need for IIS on the boxes take it off and then use the following command at the DOS prompt. ctxxmlss /R:80 and check that the service has started. THen try your connections again.

IIS hasn't installed on the citrix server at any point (as far as i'm aware).

When i went into the server properties and looked at the metaframe settings the 'Citrix XML Service' says its 'Sharing With IIS'

When i run that dos command i get an error saying the port is in valid.

Cheers !

Steve

sharing with iis means iis is installed

Morning Scott :)

Hmmm i looked in add/remove components and IIS was not installed and also in the manage my server applet and the application server role is not installed. I cant find any trace of IIS ?

I'll try installing and removing IIS...

Thats sounds like what I would be doing.

I think Sharing with IIS means it is greyed out and you cannot edit. I think we are on to it however. It saying it is an invalid port appears to me like something is using port 80 and citrix assumed it was IIS.

On the other hand you could make it port 81.

If you do ctxxmlss /? it will show you how to unload it and reload it on a different port.

Ok i've unregistered it, and registered it onto port 81.

I tried putting it back on 80 after that but it still says port 80 is in use..

by moving it to 81 - what affect will this have on clients/browsing ?
