Hello,

Win2K3 server.
It shuts down by itself, I start it again, it's coming up and after a minute it shuts down again...
Any idea ????

Thanks

Does it physically turn itself off or do you get a blue screen prior to reboot? If it just reboots, you most likely have problems with power (power supply, UPS, etc)
If the server is blue screening, press F8 during the next reboot there is a menu option that allows you to disable reboots on stop errors (don't recall it offhand but it's there). Then record the blue screen info and look it up.

Hello,

No bluescreen, just a message "Windows is shutting down...

regards

Have you checked for virus's? Does the Event Viewer give you any detail?

it may be worth disconnecting the server from the network to ensure that there is nothing remotely that is affecting the server.

Of course I mean disconnect the server from the network to perform some sort of diagnosis, then reconnect it again :)

events: No detail
Virus: no virus in my opinion, we have about 40 servers in the network and only one shuts down.

Is the server overheating and auto shutting down as a result? Have you run any hardware diags?

If it keeps giving you a message that "windows is shutting down" I agree with TheLad in regards to it being a possible virus infection

First, make sure power is fully plugged in and that a UPC isn't messing up. If you have a UPC make sure it's battery is holding a charge.

Second make sure that the internal fans are running. Then check the ram take all sticks out and put a known good one in. I have had instances of 4 sticks being bad at once, then the motherboard gives out.

Can you start in safe mode? Does it stay on in safe mode?

What I would do it take it to bare bones... CPU 1 stick of ram no PCI or any Cards and only 1 hard drive and see if it works. If it does put everything back in one by one until you find the culprit.

Thanks to all...
It was an HW "problem".
Cleaned the MEM contacts and it works.
Hope it works for a long long time
