I am trying to upgrade the security on our local intranet site from using a simple Access table to checking against the Active Directory. Quite frankly i'm rather new to the ASP world and could use a bit of a nudge in the right direction. All help is appreciated.

If you turn off anonymous access in the IIS Admin tool then the server will begin sending Permission Denied codes back to the user's web browser.

When the browser sees this and it has made an anymous request, it will either prompt the user for credentials or automatically send the credentials of the current user depending on the security settings in the browser.

The username (but not the password) is then available to your ASP via the Request.ServerVariables collection.

Once you get to that point, you might want to check out the VB Script forum: forum329 In my experience, the readers in that forum are experts at using the Active Directory and it is pretty easy to convert their scripts to work with ASP.

Thank you for the Tip.
