I'm an infant manager looking for growth. And now feel I'm stuck, please read my story and suggest:
I lead a small team of 5. Then I was given a responsibility of initiating a new project which I did successfully. This project was small & was to grow over some time. But then client decided to stop the project & begin the same at their end, (for cost cutting reasons probably). Then they offered me a job (for the same project) with a mouth-watering offer. I checked their plans & joined them.
Now I'm with the client, but the team isn't growing. I'm working here as two (a lead and a programmer). And now they say the budget is too tight and I have to continue with the same for some time.
I feel cheated & don't know how to get out of this. I can quitt but that would be a too quick move. Or I should speak to management and describe my situation? (But I'm less hopeful as they would want me to be with the same project.)

Cheers!

I would have put this across to the management. If I am a starter (that's what I am), and if I had to lead a small team without a crucial impact in the client's services, I would have asked for more responsibilities and would have tried to excel in both assignments.

This works because
1. The client will be happy since they reduce their resource requirements
2. The management will be happy since both the projects might run in lower budgets.
3. You get to prove your go-getter attitude.
4. You provide a positive outlook to the management because you are not cribbing about your job, but you are trying to prove yourself beneficial for the company.

But since you feel that you are cheated, I would suggest you do some background work prior to picking the person who you want to talk. If you dont get a response / get a negative response out of your discussion, your feelings might aggravate. Hence, pick the person who you think will be beneficial for your goals.
