My company has just inherited an IP Office 403 unit from a company that went into receivership, and for my sins I have been given the task of setting it up to replace our existing PBX (JOY!!!).
The unit came to us with 12 digital handsets, an IP400 Digital Terminal and had a PRI card installed as the primary trunk. We have three ISDN2e lines but do not have ISDN30 so ordered the 4 port BRI card and have installed it into the unit. From what I gather, the unit will detect that the BRI card has been installed instead, and this reflects when you open the management software. Also in the front panel of the unit, the corresponding LED’s light up when one of the ISDN lines are plugged into the BRI card.
I have been able to get the unit up and running on our network, set up users and groups so that it works internally without any problems; however when you try to make an outgoing call from the unit all I get is a long pause and then a busy tone. Similarly, trying to dial the number from a mobile or another land line, all you get is the busy tone again.
I have looked at all kinds of things in the configuration to try and get it working but as yet have not found out where I’m going wrong. I am starting to wonder if the unit does know it has a BRI card installed or not. Any Ideas?????????? Cheers.

did you default the unit after installing the BRI card, before customizing it for your company? If not I would give it a whirl - if it doesn't help you can always reload your existing config back into it.

Failing that one of the UK guys here will have to help you, us poor sods in north america aren't allowed to use BRI on IP Office :(

Peter

1) As per Peter - Default the unit before Starting work

2) did you replace the Pri board or install the Bri in slot A. untill SW release V2.1 the IP403 only supported ISDN boards in slot A.

Ok guys this is what I have get to so far:
I defaulted the unit like you suggested, and put the BRI card into slot A. I then ran the setup wizard from the admin disk. Gave it a name, password etc, declined the internet connection but selected the MSN/DDI config. As I am only testing the unit I selected one number, no DDI’s and has a presentation of 6 digits. This was then uploaded to the unit. Opened the config file and checked all was loaded ok which it had, tried an outside line no joy. Also there was no indication that a trunk line was present.
Tried the above again back in slot B, got the same symptoms again, however this time I could see that the led was lit indicating that the trunk was present.
Any further clues here?

IPGuru prior to 2.1 ISDN cards (PRI anyway) had to go in slot B, not A (I know you know that, you just typed the wrong letter in point 2 above).

Charlie I would default the unit once more, but with the BRI firmly seated in slot B before you do the default. Are you confident you've programmed the correct lines into the line group you're using in your dialout shortcode (?/./dial) ?

Peter

And remember a unit that has been defaulted will ring the ext's in the main group with the default incoming route.
As long as you have the led lit to confirm your bri is synched the calls should come in, is the led flashing when you dial in, use the monitor program to see what is happening , monitor the isdn layers.

Appologies for the Typo, I did of course mean slot B.

Another Question however

when you check unints in the config, what models are being reported?

Sorry guys you are talking to a complete newbie here as far as PBX’s go. From all the documentation I’ve got from Avaya, after running the setup wizard and allocating the number to “main” and have also tried to an extension you should be able to at least dial out. From the front panel it looks like when you dial an external number the trunk light starts to flash indicating the card is trying to dial, but it doesn’t seem to get the connection. After you hang up the call the trunk led carries on flashing and it takes a reboot to get a sync again.
Sorry about the length of it but this is what I’m getting from the Monitor for trying to make the call, it doesn’t make much sence to me as I don’t know what I need to look for?

in which country are you?
What kind of 403 do you have DS or DT?
Did you play with the a-law u-law settings?

Arnoud

wnen running monitor also enable the settings in the ISDN section (select filters from the main menu).

Is your system locale set to enu or eng?
Are your BRI lines set to etsi or Aust013?
Are you connecting direct to an exchaneg line or piggie-Backing of another switch?

Hi Charlie

The most common mistake for a newbie in to have the incorrect region setup on your pc. This can do allsorts of odd things. Along with the answers to Arnold’s questions where did thew system come from (County/area). I did this myself first time around.
