Okay I'm in safe mode right now. My screen won't display anything. When I boot it up, it shows the Dell sysinfo garbage, then the black WinXp screen with the loading bar, then it stays black. The desktop loads as I can hear the little jingle and alt+f4 to restart etc, but the screen stays black.

I ran a virus scan through the night in safe mode and it removed a trojan avi or something. I also ran spybot and adaware and they found the usual tracking cookies and garbage. (this is after the screen issue). yesterday avast found something on it's routine scan and deleted it. Now the screen doesn't display anything. I can load safe mode etc but that'sit.

What do I do? I don't have system restore active so that's out. How do I make a boot cd? Is there a problem with my boot.ini file? It looks like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Need help fast. Thanks.

try booting into SAFE MODE (after the BIOS screen hit the F8 key repeatedly), if you get visual there then your video settings are set to a rate that the monitor cannot handle...

try installing a newer driver for the graphics card...
