Hello all,

I have SCO Unix 5 Open server installed in my company.
Now we want to add a new LG CD writer 8240 in my server.

Please help me how i can install this on my server ?

I don't know what a LG CD writer is, but the ONLY CD Writers that will work are SCSI- IDE WILL NOT WORK.

You add it as though it were an ordinary cdrom:

mkdev cdrom

You need the "cdrecord" software from also.

I have been reading this reply quite a few times now, and I keep wondering - Why? It seems strange nowadays not to support a standard IDE CD writer. Can someone explain this to me for the sake of my curiosity?

The ide driver in current sco versions just isn't up to the task. Supposedly this will be corrected in 5.0.7 (due out soon).

But also: I can tell you from much personal experience on systems that DO handle IDE: don't waste your money. You will have less frustration and throw away far less disks if you buy a good SCSI cdrw.

IDE just doesn't cut the mustard. Tony Lawrence
