Help required with creating a vector sun

Just wondering if anyone could assist me with tips on creating a 'vector' sunlight effect, like shown here:
I know how to do something similar in PS using brushes , but i'm wanting something that can be resizable.

...definitely can do this in illustrator, you will need to create one beam first filled with a gradient, then another object filled gradient down the left edge or both edges for those highlights...

...create a symbol of this single beam by grouping it and dragging to the symbols palette, with it as a symbol it will become easier to edit later down the road...

...drag the symbol you created from the symbols palette to the artboard and then rotate this around...

...for the white glow area you can create this using an opacity mask...

...here is my quick effort, not exactly like the the image you posted but you get the idea hopefully...
