Ok I need to set-up a VPN connection between my home pc & laptop both running XP Pro. I have ADSL at home running through a D-Link dsl504 router (small network) and I will be using a standard dial-up from my laptop when away from home.

So far I have gathered that the following needs to be done:

Set-up a VPN connection on both pcs.
Make the IP address of my home pc static.
Enable VPN pass-through on the router.

Is there anything else I need to consider????

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Matt

You will need to forward port 1723 on your router to your internal machine. I would check D-Links website to make sure to set it up right.
Are you sure your VPN is set up correctly? I think for XP machines you need to set an IP Security Policy for them to connect to each other.
Test it by trying to VPN when you are both on your D-Link. If it has multiple ports anyway. If you can connect inside the same network, your VPN is set up right, on to trying to connect from the outside, which is fun all in itself...

Thanks,

Matt Wray
