Help Requested: Bytecc ME-320U2 with Samsung SP2514N 1

Seeking some assistance: I cannot get the Samsung SP2514N ( supposedly IDE, 250 GB drive ) to work with an external IDE to USB 2.0 enclosure. I have tried every jumper setting ( master, slave, switch setting ) but does not show up on my XP notebook. The drive does say PATA on it ( but other documentation claims it is an IDE drive ).

For troubleshooting, I compared to my other Bytecc enclosure ( same model ) that has a WD1200 ( an IDE ) that DOES work. I tried this drive in the new enclosure, and it worked.

Just to be sure...have you looked in Disk Management (right-click My Computer>Manage>Disk Management)? Have you formatted, partitioned, and initialized the drive?

Tony -- lo and behold, it did appear in that list! I did not go there when the system did not show it. I was able to see it, initialize it and format it. Thanks a ton, man!!!! Ted

My pleasure...I have a flat spot on my forehead from smacking it when I've realized I had forgotten to format the drive first before use...glad you got it sorted out and thanks for the star.
