I just installed a game (Left 4 Dead) and first I got a "binkw32.dll not found" error when trying to run it. So I downloaded this DLL file and placed it in my Windows XP Pro system dir. Now I get this error:

"The procedure entry point _BinkSetMemory@8 could not be located in the dynamic link library binkw32.dll."

Does anyone know how to fix this? I paid good money for this game have been struggling to get it working for a good week now. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If it's the game itself at fault, then there should be a patch somewhere. The cause of the fault sounds like a line of text is missing from the dll file, but without knowing exactly what should be there, it'd be difficult to fix.

Here's a reference saying that the error message has to do with the game having issues with the Bink video codec. So perhaps you just need to first reinstall the particular codec, or a codec package that includes it.

Also, it could be a registry error. You could try one of the clean-up fixup programs like these, to see if you get any results:
1. CCleaner
2. Advanced System Care
3. Glary Utilities

The file you downloaded, has a version mismatch, either it is too new or too old, and as mentioned the procedural entry point does not exist...

This is from UbiSoft about the same problem:

rename the file binkw32.dll, in your system32 folder to Xbinkw32.dll, and restart the game...

if that does not work, then look in the GAME install folder, for the file and copy that file to the system32 folder...
