Hey guys - I humbly ask for your help.

for our exchange ORGANIZATION, the only account with "Service Account Admin" is now listed as "\Unknown Account". Others listed under that ORGANIZATION have only "Admin" access.

How can I get one of those accounts, or a new account, back in with "Service Account Admin" permissions?

Right now, when I try to modify things, I get a "you do not have the permissions required to complete the operation. ms exchange dir: ds_e_insufficient access rights", and can't modify anything.

Please help! We are having problems with mail flow now.

Much appreciation for your help,
Tim

Sounds like you have lost the SID of the Exchange Admin account. Unless you have some with at least permissions admin you will not be able to do much!

As far as I know you will need to re-install exchange. Using the exact same organisation and site names.

see the following for more info on a similar issue:

Thanks for your time and effort -- I did end up re-installing Exchange, then restoring what I had on backup tape.

It wasn't too bad. From now on I'm sure to have backup "Permissions Admins" in case this thing happens again. But then, I'm moving my 5.5 to 2003 so probably this will be a non-issue anymore for me.
