I'm writing a report on an IIS server for publishing, but its so slow connecting via ODBC to a PErvasive 2000i database. Are there any performance enhancements I can do?
thanks

Are you using the ODBC driver that comes with Pervasive? If so, this might be the cause of some of the slowness. I use the driver from Merant. Seems to perform better. You should be able to get that driver from CDW or Programmers Paradise. I have never tried to put a report on IIS so I don't know what effect that might be having.

yes, im using the pervasive odbc32 driver. How much does this cost? what product do i download?

I would first verify that the report runs fine from another client computer. It could be the linkings in the report, how the prompts are set up in whether they are using key fields or not. Don't use formulas based on key fields in the record selection which will force it to read the entire database.

The product is about $80 to $100 and you will have to download or order the driver for Pervasive 2000i. They make drivers for most major databases.

kscheeler has a point, you should make sure that the problem isn't worstation related, and also make sure that this is the only application running slow on this workstation. There are situations where a bad NIC card, or one that's going bad, can cause a workstation to run poorly.

The other thing you might want to look at is the size of the database you are hitting. Crystal reports will take a while to run if the data tables being hit are large. Pervasive does not have the performance characteristics of MS SQL.
