Help. Poster sizes 1

If I wanted to design a poster, would I just create an A4 document, build it with page items, and send it to the printers for it to be printed at 22" x 30"?
Or would I need to create the 22" document and then send to printers?
High definition images (photos mainly) would be used
Illustrator CS on WinXP

You should create the document as either 22x30 or at a size that scales proportionately - i.e. 1/2 size is 11x15. A4 does NOT scale correctly.

What kind of printer are you using? You need to ask them some questions.
Are they running the file to film or direct to plate? If so, the images will probably need to be 300dpi at final size.
If they are running to a large format inkjet, they will only need to be a maximum of 125dpi at final size.

Ask them how much bleed they need on all sides of the document and make sure all images extend that much past the crop marks.

The poster is going to plate. I have created the poster to it's finished size, but it took some time due to the size. I was trying to save some processing power.
I will try the scaling idea next time.
