I HAVE FDISK A HARD DRIVE AND WENT TO INSTALL WINDOWS98 ON IT NOW IT IS SAYING THAT THERE IS A COMPRESSED PART TO THE DRIVE WHAT DO I DO PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS

Start from the beginning- run FDISK again and view partition information to see if there is anything funky there. If yes, delete all and start over. If no, do you have a disk from the HD manufacturer? many times they will have an HD utility that will let you do a low-level format (On Maxtor drives, this is called "Writing the Disk Pack" or some such) which will return the drive to it's "out-of-box" state and remove any residualgook that might be tripping up your system.

The low-level format is very effective if a bit drastic, but since you indicate you already FDISK'ed the drive I am assuming there is nothing to lose here.
