I am working on a catalog project. I tried to export a pdf file for my printer. I exported optimized for press. However my master page elements are missing. Did I do something wrong. Appreciate any advice regarding this. It is very important to me if I can export this as a pdf file.

Rather than Export to PDF... why don't you try to print to file, then open distiller and convert. I find this method is more foolproof and usually solves these bizarre problems. Are your master page elements TIFFs? If so, that usually causes export to crap out on you. hope this helps. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

I will try to print to file and process how you suggested. No I dont have any tifs on the master pages as I know they create issues. Rob

Hi,

On the missing elements of your master page, go to your master page, select an item and do the following:
Menu
Element> and see at the bottom of this menu if "non-printing" is checked.
If so uncheck it. Do this for all the elements on your master pages.
hope this helps

I find export is flakey.

I get a removal of bookmark text and have tied it down to having a hyperlink and an "Include in TOC" in the same text. The clue was when I hyperlinked to half of the text and the unlinked text appeared but not the linked text. Thus by re-entering the text in the clean part re-instates the text and I leave a "paper" period in the hyperlink field. It does leave characters to be edited but once I had the problem I found it impossible to remove and/or get hyperlinks to the correct position. Any ideas?

I get no bookmarks sometimes and the only way to re-instate them is to re-index which is a slow process because I tinker even with scripting it is slow. The problem starts if index entries are changed or deleted or probably added, even if I am prepared to forego the ommisions temprarilly. They all are ommissed!!!!

I tried print to pdf and distiller but you don't get book marks automatically. Even using export I haven't managed to find a way to get hyperlinks to link to files (as opposed to URL's). It still needs a lot of work in Acrobat to place those links and it has to be done every time a change is made in the source. I have taken to exporting to gash files and cutting & pasting page contents which is fine until bookmarks change.

I have yet to lose masterpage elements using exports. But I am half expecting it now. I do get all sorts of crashes which I put down to resource hog - particularly when I have the TV app running because it grabs the grphics and uses ram as graphics memory extensions. If it is a big file (PM7 >7Meg) I sort of anticipate problems and would welcome the telly to fill the 15 minutes wait.
