I'm in some serious need of some help. The other day my computer basically stop functioning, it was working the night before but when I got up the next morning it wouldn't work. It went into standby mode but when I rebooted it would get into the WinXP login screen then just reboot. After trying to fdisk and/or reinstall WinXP, Win2k, Win98, Slackware, I would get memory dumps or get the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA STOP message WinXP. I've tried memtest86 no errors. I have a K7SEM motherboard and 1ghz Duron processor. I've disabled the Level 1 cache and the computer will install but it runs super slow, like 386 slow. But when L1 is enabled it crashes, could it be L1 gone bad or any other suggestions? Thanks,

Sounds to me like either memory went bad, despite memtest86 running okay, or a heat problem with your CPU. Is the CPU fan and other case fans running at normal speeds? What is the CPU temperature with L1 enabled? Any possibility a BIOS setting got changed on you?

Try reinitializing your virtual memory(pagefile.sys), effectively move it to another drive, by duplicating the current settings to D: and changing the settings on C: to zero, apply and reboot the machine. It will normally perform better if not set on the OS bearing drive.

Try the different safe booting modes like VGA. This is probably a system file or a driver.

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

Thank you for your help, I was in a rush yesterday when I posted so I'll add some more information. I installed Win98 this morning, without L1 enabled; won't even install when L1 is enabled, gets to searching for components and it crashes. Anyway, installation of Win98 without L1, took almost 4 hours it was that slow. But it appears that without L1 it's stable. The CPU fan is running, and from what I can remember it's not overheated; based on BIOS information. No BIOS didn't change; but I managed to get the updated BIOS from ECS website. If it is the L1 cache thats farked, does that mean a new processor or board? I apprcieate all responses as I'm strapped for cash so I'm trying to get as much information as possible before buying anything (service/parts).. Thanks.
