My outlook 2000 personel folder is corrupted, how can I repair it? Outlook say it can't open my personel folder and need to do repair tools, I have tried, but still can't.
Theres a bunch of stuff you could try. But before you do anything, make you sure you back up your current .pst file, even though it may be corrupted (or whatever).
OK, having backed up the file, try this:
1. Run Inbox Repair Tool (START->PROGRAMS->ACCESSORIES->SYSTEM TOOLS). If you do not have this, then look for the file scanpst.exe on your hard drive or office/outlook CD. For more details on how to use the Inbox Repair Tool, have a look at:
2. If that does not work, then look for the outlook.pst file and rename it to something else say Outlook1.pst. Open up your Outlook and it will error with something like: "Outlook couldn't find the default personal folders file, create a new Outlook.pst?"
Click on OK and Outlook should pop up with a new outlook.pst.
Now, display the Outlook folders (VIEW->FOLDER LIST). The next step is to transfer the old messages and other data from the original PST file to the new one. Load the original file, Outlook1.pst, into the current view with FILE->OPEN SPECIAL FOLDER->PERSONAL FOLDER. The contents of the original file appeared below the current Outlook folders in the Folder List. Then right click and drag each folder to copy it from its location in the original file to the same location in the new file. (Left click dragging would have move the folder rather than copying it, and keeping the original intact is your primary goal here.)
When you get to the defaul folders such as Inbox, Outbox, Sent Items etc you cannot copy the folder, as a new subfolder will be created.
Here, you could export the contents of these folders from Outlook1.pst, and then reimport them back into the newly created Outlook.pst.
Hopefully, this will get you back to the original state. Once you are back make sure you back up the outlook.pst file again!
