Hi there,

We're running GW5.2 server. THis morning I noticed that our outgoing external email is not getting delivered. It works fine within our domain.

Our GWIA seems to be processing outgoing emails. And we're not listed in any RDBs. Our MX IP resolves fine.

Also our \domain\wpgate\gwia\Send\ folder is full of emails form the last 3 days (which tells me that it's been goiing on for 3 days)..

HELP!!

thank you,
oleg

Check to ensure your DNS information is good. This can happen when an ISP messes around with thier DNS servers. Even if you have a second DNS server, it does not get used unless communication actually fails with the first, will not use it if the first just can;t find the DNS entry your looking up.

Also, check your qeue directory. You may have a stuck message.

-I checked the DNS and looks like it resolves fine on dnsstuff.com.
- As far as our qeue directory - like I said our domain\wpgate\gwia\Send\ folder is full of entries. I deleted the few oldest entries. I did not help.

Thanks,
oleg

don't delete, move, then put one in at a time and see if it will send them out until yo find the one that is hanging it up.

And on checking DNS, do it from the server. Using somthing like, ping novell.com and see if it resolves to an IP addrress from the server, not from an external source like you have done. And the server to test from is the same server the SMTP gateway is running on.

ovs8, does your SMTP gateway forward directly to the recipient or does it relay through another server at your ISP? Perhaps the next server's IP address has changed.

It appeared to be a DNS issue. My all pings went to some public IP address and traceIP returned the same IP address with our old domain name which we don't own anymore.

I had to bring a GW consultant in. He ran protocol analyzer. Th server was appending it's domain name to all DNS requests. When he removed domain name from config file DNS started working fine.

Thanks for your help,
oleg
