Help out a newbie.. Finding files on the server

I'm a NetWare newbie, but I'm stuck with it...

Old NetWare 4.11 box - no workstation attached

Need to find some Access files buried somewhere on it - how do I move around on here? I'm lost if regular old DOS "cd" commands don't work. I maintain a NW5 box, but always have a gui there, or step-by-step instructions...

- Can I run a file search from the NW command prompt?
- How do I navigate in this text-based world?
- If I find the files, how do I copy them onto the DOS partition to get at 'em on my Windows machine?

- Alternatively, is there a utility that would let me see and copy from the Novell partition is the server HDD is slaved on my Windows machine?

As far as I can tell from DSREPAIR, the only volume is SYS - no DATA or APPS volumes...

Tried loading NWAdmin, message said it wasn't found!

All help is appreciated!

Try running NetBasic. At the server console, type...

LOAD NETBASIC

Then, type SHELL. This will take you to what looks like a DOS Prompt. You can use DOS CD commands to navigate around.

There is another Utility that is available for free on Novell's Website call JCMD (Java Command), which is similar to NetBasic, but 100 times better.

Good Luck!

You can also use TOOLBOX.NLM which performs similar functions to NETBASIC -----------------------------------------------------

Thanks for the quick response!

I was able to work it out, though I had to jump through some hoops - loading NETBASIC and the SHELL command didn't do it alone - I still got the same <servername:>prompt.

Also, for some unknown reason, I couldn't load any .nlm's straight from the floppy drive as described in the Novell documentation: LOAD A:<filename>. I only got "can't find" errors.

BUT - I loaded NETBASIC and SHELL, THEN used the LOAD A:<filename> command, and loaded JCMD.NLM with no problems!

Did what I needed to do pretty simply after that - great tips, guys!!
