Help Oracle freezes linux

I need urgent help, I have redhat6.2 and oracle 8.1.6 i was preparing oracle for the install of 9i Application server and decided to reboot before install. Now linux freezes on the way up at: starting oracle8i and the harddrive light goes out. What do I do??

hey,

can't answer your question right now but it sounds like we're going down similar paths. I'm currently building a big "proof of concept" Oracle on Linux box to possibly replace several fairly large Sun boxes. would you be willing to swap notes here or offline?

as you know from previous posts this has been a pet project for several months and here is what my research has yielded so far:

not quite that bad...

I have been unable to obtain the name of a single customer running Oracle on Linux in production and metalink search does not show a single patch for 8.1.6 (haven't checked ftp directly yet). as if that's not discouraging enough we've also had to "duct-tape" the 2.4 kernel to RH6.2 to support the SGA size & # processes we need.

I'll get it to work but I don't know if I'll be willing to bet my paycheck and those of my coworkers on it.

I totally don't understand why Oracle isn't embracing Linux other than they did shovel $$$ in to the NT version but if they don't get off their <colorful slang term> they're going to wake up one day and find everyone running mySQL & PostGresm.
