Hi all,

which conditions do I have to fulfill, so that I can install Oracle 8.1.7 on SUN 8?

- Filesystems
- Users
- Profile
- Kernel (Update?)

Thank you very much in advance.

Best regards

Okav,

By Sun 8 I suppose you mean Solaris 2.8. You first point is to read the installation guide of Oracle 8 which should be shipped to you with the Oracle media (CD most probably). The installtion guide should give you all the information you need with regard the latest patches that you need to install on your hardware including the kernel patches. Then depending on your hardware you need to set up the shared memory and forceload the semaphores etc. To start can you send the configuration of your sun box.
Get the output from the following:

Code:
uname -a ## give the detail about your O/S

/usr/sbin/prtdiag |grep -i mem ## how much RAM you have

/usr/sbin/psrinfo -v ## the number of CPUs and speed

swap -s ## how much swap space you have

ifconfig -a ## your network details

to know what patches you currently have on OS do "shorev -p"

Anyway send the above output first so we can determine how much max shared memory you can set etc
