Hi, im basically new to this and got in a situation where im covering for my boss whos on leave for 5 months.
Anyways, our problem here is that some of our employees are recieving thier voicemails a day or two later and the message light is not going on on new messages. It happens every now and then but its getting to a point where they are complaining about it.
We have a meridian opt.81 version 3021 release 4 and our voicemail is Octel, im not sure how to get the model or kind of octel we have.
I did some basic troubleshooting like checking for MWA, HUNT and toggleing on and off the message light on the octel.

Before my boss left I know he he installed a bunch of patches on the system and it worked for awhile, now its doing it again.
If any more info is needed, let me know. Thanks for any advice!

Sounds like what you need to do a garbage collect on the OCTEL. I had a couple of OCTELS at my previous job, and would have the same issues you are having. A garbage collect always cleared them up. You are more than likely pushing the hard disk space on the machine. I was told once the hard disk is over 60% full, the maching will sometimes behave eratically. Hope that helps.

so how would i do a garbage collect? just delete old voicemail boxes that are unused or is there a certain way of doing it?

thanks for the help

Yeah, I would get rid of any mailboxes not in use for sure. As far as the garbage collect goes, I don't have an OCTEL in fron of me to give you the steps, but I remember it is the first screen I think after you log in. There should be an option for maintenence, or system maintnenence, and the garbage collect is somewhere in there. I wish I still had my manuals, so I could look it up for you. Let me do some checking around and see what I can come up with. Meanwhile, fart around in the maintenence screens and see ifyou stumble across the garbage collect prompt.

Can you tell me if it is a PC based OCTEL 100, or does it have a chasis with cards in it like a 250?

If I remember right, you have to have the proper
access level to turn on garbage collect, a normal
administrator would not have that, you may have to
get your Octel vendor involved.

I had the exact same problem presented to me a day or two ago. It's happened on occasion in the past. Nortel 61C and Meridian Mail. Any suggestions?
