Does anyone create their own help?

All I want to do is call the win32.api and display the contents or index or search...
Nothing big. I went to the MS site and kept going in circles (what a surprise).
Got the api working for contents, but not for index.
I used robohelp to create the .hlp file and it works good.

Thanks
Gary

Hi Gary,

I have attempted to wend my way through the tangle of (MiS) info on "Help".

I could not order the MiS book on Win Help.

I could get the MiS Book on HTML Help, however it refers to ver 1.1 of HTML Help, while the current version is ~ 1.3.

The MiS book on HTML Help includes URL references for Updates &/or "feedback" (both reference MS sites). Neither is valid.

Sending E-Mail to MS to point out the URLs which are in error only gets a return e-main stating that I did not complete the bug report properly (some - obviously non-applicable info not included ... what URL did I attempt to address this URL from ...)

The (out-of-date) MS book on HTML Help consistiently points out the "advantages" of HTML Help over Win Help.

I Think the foregoing is sufficient information for anyone to draw the conclusion.

Michael

I know this is an old thread but I was running into problems because VB 6.0 would not display the contents tab from the Help Workshop file i created.

I downloaded HTML Help Workshop and converted my .rtf file but there were problems in the conversion and it got all mucked up. I tried to conform the my new HTML help file but after spending 2 weeks creating macros and writing my rtf file I was not up for spending another few weeks fixing the html code.

Here is what I came up with:

Instead of the HelpContents being defined as &H3 it must now be &HB. <-- that is a letter "b" in capital... not an 8

I hope this saves some people the headache I went through.

Yes, I do understand that the HTML Workshop offers MUCH more functionality but after learning the old Help Workshop I did not want to spend the time learning a whole new Help system. For future upgrades I will most likely convert to the HTML style but for now, i am "content" (hehe) with the old style

Matt

I purchased RoboHelp Office. It does both, but is a little on the high side.
