Help on Client detection in a Wi-Fi or LAN

Hello guys,

I need some help again. The application that i am working on run on a mobile device. i ve successfully developed a code in C#(to some extent) to download updates for the application from the server using IIS. What i want to know is, how to detect the client(My mobile device) in the Wi-Fi or LAN.

And also i need some help on how to run my application to check for updates whenever connected to the LAN or Wi-Fi.
I ve done the checking for updates though, i am only struggling with the connection part as i am new to C#.
