I have been trying to get a tape drive(archive_python 04687-xxx) to mount so I can get files from the tape and or do a restore to the system.

1. How can I get the tape drive to mount, and or to access the tape, it shows under devices but that is as far as I can get with my minimal knowledge.

2. Is there a way to do a restore from the tape from a prompt or with a boot disk??

Thank you to any and all that reply

You will probably have to restore enough of the server to get up and running, which it sounds like you have. The next thing to do is to install the backup software you used to make the backup. Then, the backup software should be able to read the tape and restore whatever needs restoring. Can you give us more information? When you say the drive shows under devices, where exactly does it show? In NWCONFIG? Or does it show up in ConsoleOne? As far as restoring from a boot disk or prompt, that would depend on your backup software, again.

1. I have installed nw6 at moment, and I can go back to 5 if needed
2. I hate to say it but I do not know what software was used for my original tape(perhaps arcserv,if so, I do not have a copy to use)
3 when I list devices at the prompt it shows me hdd.cdrom.archive_python 04687-xxx.

nwtape is installed and the cdrom mounts fine, but no tape drive, I hate to say I have very little nw experience , but I am a fast learner at this rate,LOL

thanks again

Hi,

Am I misreading this? Am I missing something? What backup software are you using? You will not be able to use the tape drive without a backup software loaded.

I believe the archive_python is an AutoLoader, you may have little or no luck with NWTAPE depends on how the DIP switches are set. And Lou is right, you MUST have the Backup software!!
