Hello ,
I am an Aix/HP System admin and i am facing this issue now , i installed the ML on 4.3.3.1 to 4.3.3.10 and it came out to be a total issue , first i lost the console and i brought it back but now since i am trying to bring the CDE on the console which is a graphics console i am not able to since it comes with an error message when i run xdm :
exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program xdm because of the following errors:
0509-150 Dependent module libXt.a(shr4.o) could not be loaded.
0509-022 Cannot load module libXt.a(shr4.o).
0509-026 System error: A file or directory in the path name does not exist

i checked the file , and the links it is there , but still it gives me this issue , when i run an X from the lft0 console it runs but i cannot see it running when i type ps -ef | grep X11 . So please suggest and also the ML still shows me to be 4.3.3.1 and not 4.3.3.10

Thanx
Sunil

xdm is giving you the errors because it cannot find the .a files in your LIBPATH. Also `oslevel` will only return the version and release and `oslevel -r` returns the ML that has all filesets installed. Do `oslevel -r -q` to find all known MLs. Also do `instfix -ivk 4330-09_AIX_ML | grep not | grep ':'` to find filesest that need to be installed for each ML.

NOTE: in the instfix command replace the 09 with 10, 08, etc of the ML you want.

I still could not get the xdm running , it gave me the same error as before , i have added the LIBPATH to the etc/environment , so what can be done next , since when i go to the lft console and run X , it comes back to the prompt and i see not Xserver running , so your guidance to solve this issue is highly desirable.

Thanx
Sunil

echo your LIBPATH and see if the libX.a file paths are in your LIBPATH. If not, then add the path for these files to your LIBPATH. Also check to see if the files exist.

hi ,

would it be possible for you to let me know how do i restore the /unix since now my operating system comes up with this message , i know certain things like to take the backup of the file /usr/sbin/bosboot and then edit the file with vi and insert a line under /usr/bin/ksh "exit" and then install the bos.mp which would work , but i am not sure of the procedure so would it be possible for you to please let me know the procedures. i am currently running 4330-01. greatly appreciate your help in this regards.
