help needed with respect to passing parameters from subreport to main

Hi Everybody,
I have a main report which shows all the header level info and a subreport to show the line item level info. there are 6 tables in the main..and 1 in the sub. i wanted to use some fileds in the subreport in my main report, so i used shared variables. that worked, but now i have to make use of a formula in the selction expert which needs the field of the subreport. iTs a date field, and i am not able to use it in my report by using the same method(shared variable) this parameter is the ship date, which will sort all my records according to the ship date, but this ship date field is in my subreport table. if i add the subreport table to my main report...it doesnt work..so please help..i hope i am clear

If I understand your question, I do this on several reports with sub-reports. When you link the sub report to the main report, you can select a field from the main report to select data on the sub-report, wouldn’t you just select the date field in question. In my reports both the main report and sub-report the data are parameter fields and I pass them from main to sub that way.

Thank u bennie, my question is i have only one table in the subreport, and if i use this table in my main report and link it, the report doesnt work, but i need this table in the main report.
i have linked my subreport to my main report, but i want it in the reverse direction, i want to use a field of the table of the subreport, in my main report
