Help needed with openOffice Writer hyperlink

Refer to my handle. I really hate msoft. Finally at work I was able to get our mgmt to let me use the openoffice suite instead of msoffice. I need your help to keep using it and hopefully repalce msoffice in our office/firm.
I am having problem with hyperlinks when using bookmarks. They work just fine until I do a save as or send a document via email. All the bookmarks in the new document (save as) or one downloaded from email revert to file URL type and naturally the hyperlinks won't work becuase it can't find the document path or the URL. This is a big problem as we send a lot of bookmarked-hyperlinked docs to our clients and must resolve it ASAP. Any help from you experts out there is greatly appreciated. I am using OpenOffice 1.0. If using StarOffice will solve the problem I can do that, but must be sure before going to the mgmt to get approval once again.
Please help me rid our organization from msoffice.

Change hyperlinks type in Preferences from absolute to relative

Thank you for your reply. I checked the help for "relative" in Preferences. All I could find was an entry in save/load, general section. It didn't have a check box to select either relative or absolute though, it had file system and internet as two options where either one or both could be selected. Is this what you were refering to, or there exists a selection dialog box that I can tick absolute or relative? Please advise and keep in mind I'm very new to OpenOffice, so any detail is appreciated.
