Need to setup Cisco 1200 AP (AIR-AP1232AG-A-K9). I want to to set it up by connecting to my laptop via ethernet cable and using the defualt IP 10.0.0.1, first please confirm what subnet should i give on my laptop and secondly I have tried everythng but cannot ping/connect to the IP. I know i can do that with a console cable as well but the problem is that i neither have the console cable nor my laptop has a serial interface. I have reset the AP a couple of times but still no luck

HELP!!!!!

Hi,

You could give your laptop an ip address as follows;
ip address: 10.0.0.2
subnet mask: 255.0.0.0
default gateway: not necessary
But you will need a Cisco console cable to bring up the ethernet port on the AP since its in shutdown state at the moment.

thanks but this is stupid, why did they disable the interface by default and also one thing i see the eithernet LED on on the AP when i connect the cable, does'nt that indicate that the interface is enabled?

I have no serial interface either, and so I use the Prolific USB-Serial, PL-2303, works awesome!

Usually, the interfaces on new Cisco equipment (usually routers, in my experience) are not shut down, and the IP is 10.10.10.1
