I searched the forum but it did not work for me :-(

I installed the Apache server successfully and it works as a service under Windows 2000. I wanted to watch the confirmation screen in my browser and typed: Nothing good happened. My browser wanted to go to the internet (which i am not connected to).
So i browsed this forum and changed in httpd.conf: Listen 127.0.0.1:80
I also read to change something in hosts.sam. I could not find that file. I did find hostslm.sam but i could not find something i had to change.
Does anybody know what i am doing wrong??? I really would like to start programming PHP this weekend but my server must work then. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!!
Dorine

I don't know what you need to change in the host file but do a search for "host".

I don't know what you need to change in the host file but do a search for "host".

Here are the contents of the host file on W2K.

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

Hi Dorine,

I mentioned that you could alter the mapping address, not that you must do it.

Make sure that apache is running and then click on the following link.

If you see your site then it is working, you do not need the port in the address as post 80 is the default that a browser will look for when http:// is used.

Hope this helps Wullie

Probably my server isn't working then. It look like it is because i dont see errors in my log and the service starts normal. But when i do it doesn't work.

But i have spent enough of your time. I'll just play with it some more :-(

Other than telling you it can't find an internet connection, what error does the browser give when you try to go to If you are sure that apache is running, look at your httpd.conf and see if your html pages are in the same directory that is defined as DocumentRoot. This is NOT the same as the ServerRoot where your config and log files are kept. Something is wrong if your log files are empty. They should at least tell you that the page couldn't be served for one reason or other. Keep sluggin' away. I'm sure you will be playing with php before too long. :)
