Hi folks,
I need to re-configure sendmail to appear to be sending mail from one address as the SmartHost is trying to do reverse lookup on the domain.

I have a private network that has access via a admin network to a Exim mailserver, my server fred1 has no valid domain
If I configure the hosts file so I appear as fred1.mydomain.com then send mail the SmartRelay tries to lookup myname@fred1.mydomain.com and can not so rejects my mail.

How can I setup my server to appear to be sending all mail from @arealdomain.com ?
Note: I have a real address of someone@arealdomain.com but this is outside of the private network.

Sorry all sorted,

I used the Dj directive in the sendmail.cf and pointed it at and the SmartRelay can identify this as a valid domain (although not a valid routable mail address)

But fixed for now.

Ta.

You can use MASQUERADE_AS('yourdomain.com') and all mail going through your server will have @yourdomain.com as the e-mail address. If you want to be able to send e-mail from home to another person, you will need to allow relaying for yourdomain.com and add FEATURE('relay_local_from')to you sendmail.mc file. You would setup your e-mail client just like you would for your isp but use mail.yourdomain.com as your pop3 and smtp servers. This is assuming you have a dns "A" record setup pointing mail.yourdomain.com to your ip and you have the "MX" record showing mail.yourdomain.com handles mail for yourdomain.com.
