Scenario:

Machines are running Win2K - Servers are NT. I install the SMS tools/remote client on the client PC, and check with support desk that they can gain remote control which they can.

The next day or so, I go to try and remote control the machine that I installed remote functionality on, and the Systems Management and Remote Control icons have vanished from Control Panel, with no indication that they were ever installed. This happens over and over to the same users. Works fine immediately after install, but a few days later it's like I never even installed the remote client, with all trace on the client pc having dissappeared.

Any clues anyone - the users this affects are getting really pissed off !!

The reason for the client uninstalling SMS client is that when a laptop is taken offline and logged onto it cant contact its site server so it uninstalls itself. Its a nice little feature of SMS. This is basically so that clients can be moved from site to site and will get the install with settings for the correct site.

To get around this uninstal you can set some Registry entries that will stop this lovely feature.

Try the site This has all the information on this that you could wish to find.

Thanks very much for the info, but is there any chance of you posting the article or link that tells me how to do this, as there is a bit to much info on the site you've listed for me to try and filter out to find the registry settings to which you refer.
