HELP! Multiple files opening in Excel97, after opening group

HELP! I'm using Excel97 and yesterday I opened many (20) files at one time from Explorer or Control Panel. Now, every time I open Excel these files open automatically!

What DID I DO?!?!?! How can I UNDO it?

Thanks for your help, I've NEVER seen anything like this.

I should have added that I did clear out all the items in the personal folder. They were not relevant to this problem, but were no longer needed so I deleted them anyway. I have also, uninstalled the Office97 package and re-installed it. Same results.

With Excel closed, hit Start-find-files or folders and type:

xlstart

and hit enter. Move any files out of the folder. Any file in the xlstart folder automatically starts up when you start Excel. If that doesn't work, open Excel and go to Tools-Options-General tab. Remove the location listed under "Alternate Startup Folder" or move the files out of the folder mentioned in that box.
