I have a book publication in process. I have 14 files that I need to merge into a "book" file for the publisher. I am new at this and cannot figure out how to merger all files into one so that I can properly number the pages etc.

Any help would be most appreciated.

The Book command in the Utilities menu opens a dialog box which shows two side-by-side lists of files: LH side is the browser window, RH side is where you build your book list by selecting files on the LHS and clicking on the Add button. You can also remove files from the book list, or move individual 'chapters' (files) up or down in the order in your list.

The order of the Book list determines the order of your TOC and page numbering of index items.

The settings in the Auto Renumbering section of the Book command tell PM how to adjust pages between sections. PM automatically adds blank pages to each chapter so that each begins on the correct LH or RH page.

Auto Renumbering can be set to 'None' - uses page numbers as they exist in the individual chapters, and no new pages are added. (if you use this, then you should ensure that in the Doc Setup dialog box of each chapter, you have instructed the file at what number to start numbering pages)

Auto Renumbering set to 'Next Page' gives consecutive numbers to all files in the booklist.

'Next Odd Page' forces the first page in each new file to be an odd-numbered page (the usual convention) by adding blank pages to the ends of chapters where necessary - all master page items are also included on the added page.

'Next Even Page' does the reverse of the above.

Note that autonumbering is only applied to those pages that have the page number symbol on them (LM and RM), either on the master pages or the page itself.

Although not completely sure about this - if you have used a different numbering system somwwhere in the book such as in the preface for example (lower case romans like iv, xii, etc), PM will 'honour' that difference numbering when creating the book.

It is also possible to get more complex page numbering (such as used in many technical documents) where for example, the pages in Chapter 3 may be numbered 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, etc or the Appendices may be numbered A.1, A.2; B.7, B.8; C14 etc)
