Help me to extend fields in Directory!

Hi everyone!
I had a problem!
When processing to update information for subscribers in Directory manager, some fields such as: "last name ", "first name", "Department","mobile phone", "Home phone" etc...limited number of characters.So, How to extend that fields?
Help me solve this problem!

Maximum characters of SQL field is set, e.g. first_name in subscriber = 30, and cannot be extended. You want a first name more than 30 characters to search? how will you display? (?!)

I want to extend that fields to add more information in fields, not search. So, you could help me solve!
