Hello,

I just started my new job for a week and my office has Avaya Merlin Magix, Model 515A Control Unit. The phone line is working, but we still don't know what we need and how to setup the T-1 line. I'm sorry I'm still finding out from someone in my company at another site, so that's much information I have now.

We want to know what router can be used and what's else we need before we can make the T-1 up and running. Thank you so much for your information.

What kind of T-1 Interface fo you have, i.e., 100 DCD or 100 R INA? TipHelp@charter.net

This is what I found out: The Merlin system is installed with a CSU(Channel Service Unit). We don't need the CSU/DSU in the router and we may use Cisco 7200 Routers. What we need is the serial cable interface for the router(V.35 DTE Male Plug).

Do you have any advice what routers we can use instead of using Cisco 7200 routers? Thanks.

The 100 DCD module has a built-in CSU/DSU and comes with an amphenal-to-V.35 cable. The 100R module has a built in CSU/DSU/Router with a 10baseT RJ45 connector on the module. Note that this is a 10 mbs connection, so if you are running a 100 mbs network, you'll need a 10/100 switch.

Reading this thread made me go look at my inventory, an I have a 100CSU-DSU hardware vintage 0A application vintage 20 firmware vintage 91, and a 100D hardware vintage 5B firmware vintage 90. I haven't been able to find any specific docs on these.. does anyone have a pointer to any, or can provide me additiona information on these? I don't see where my csu-dsu would have a place to connect an amphenol cable... thanks!

The 100D has no built-in CSU/DSU or router, it is simply a T1 interface and requires an external CSU (such as the Paradyn 3150) or if used with data a CSU/DSU (such as the Paradyn 3160). The appropriate cables for connection of the CSU/DSU to your router are generally specified by you when you order the CSU/DSU. The amphenal connector on the 100DCD module is on the front of the module.

I believe our system is 100 DCD module because it has a built-in CSU/DSU and comes with an amphenal-to-V.35 cable. There are Serial and V.35 cable hanging out from the Merlin box. We want to know is what router can you use?
