Help me please Access keeps closing itself when apply filters form

I am on Vista and am struggling at the moment with using Access. It keeps closing on me when I try to carry out filter tasks etc. Error message is along the lines of "windows has stopped working" then restarts and tries to do a backup

It has only happened since I decided to use the "backup database" facility and I have even created a new blank database and imported the tables etc i need into that...

Yep, I have done compact and repair at least 3 times a day as i use it constantly.

I have lots of other databases and it's just this one which does it. However today most of my MS applications have done it as well including Outlook and Publisher.

I have downloaded the MS hotfix for it but that hasnt helped me.

PLEASE HELP ME SOMEBODY!

I would think you either have a hardware problem or a virus.

I would start out by running "chkdsk" followed by a "boot" virus scan that runs before windows loads.

In case you've never ran "chkdsk"

If this is a new computer I would be more concerned about a virus. I've used AVAST for years and I have been very happy with it. (It's free for home use)

chkdsk will scan the hard drive for bad or corrupt sectors on the hard drive and try to block restore bad data and / or block them from being written to.

If you go to "Start" - "Run" and type "cmd" you will get a window where you then need to type "chkdsk /?"

From there it will give you a list of options for the scan

You could also have a bad memory card
