Hi all,

I am working for a small ISP. My network has many leased line customers running mail servers with their respective domain and we manage these domain. This morning, leased line cable to a customer broke, so this customer's mail server cannot run. This customer require me to do two things immediately:

1) We must setup auto-response for all mails incoming to domain @ktm.com.vn ( customer's domain )that alerts senders about this customer's problem.
2) We must offer a splooing service, whereby all mails coming into the domain @ktm.com.vn is collected and then redirect to an alternative mail box of their existing mail box: ktm@hcm.vn (in my mail server).

Until now I don't know how to set up in my DNS server ( we manage their domain ), and my mail server so that all mails coming to domain ktm.com.vn will redirect to mail box: ktm@hcm.vn, then they can receive their above mentioned mails later ?
And how set up auto-respense alerting mode ?. We are using Netscape mail server ( under Linux ), and Mdaemon 3.0 ( under Microsoft Windows NT )

Please tell me how to deal with this problem as much as possible. Thanks so much for your help.

John Thom

Hi,

I think you admin the netscape server via browser to . I'm not familar with it personally but looking at the documentation you can do all of what you need. See --> .

On the DNS server, all you do is declare where the mail-exchanger (smtp server) is that will handle mail for the domain concerned. Then it's a matter of configuring that smtp server (e.g. sendmail or in your case netscape server). The relevant DNS records within the domain zone file would look something like :

ktm.com.vn. IN MX 10 smtp.ktm.com.vn.
smtp.ktm.com.vn. IN A 10.0.0.1

The 'MX' record points at the mail-exchanger(s) for the domain. So, in the above example, if someone tried to send email to joe@ktm.com.vn the sending smtp server would attempt to connect to smtp.ktm.com.vn:25, i.e. resolved to 10.0.0.1:25 .

Hope this helps..
