Help....login screen to save settings!

Im doing my dissertation in director where the user determines the interface layout at the start of the cd rom.

I need to create a login screen where the user types their name and the information about the interface layout they prefer is saved so it automatically loads up the next time they come to use the program again!

How can I do this? Is it possible?

it is possible to set a cookie on that specific computer which will retain the users information.
