Help Linux freezes

I need urgent help, I have redhat6.2 and oracle 8.1.6 i was preparing oracle for the install of 9i Application server and decided to reboot before install. Now linux freezes on the way up at: starting oracle8i and the harddrive light goes out. What do I do??
 
Can you boot up in linux single user mode and disable the Oracle start up? Mise Le Meas,
